Learn About Breeding Atlas II Reports

Horicon Marsh Bird Club‘s virtual meeting this week, Thursday Sept 17 at 7pm, will be a presentation on the Wisconsin Breeding Atlas II results:

The next meeting of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club will be held on Thursday, September 17h at 7 p.m. Matt Herzmann will be giving a presentation on the results of the Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas II           and the exciting confirmations for the state and Dodge County. The Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas II was a comprehensive field survey conducted from 2015-2019 that sought to document the distribution and abundance of birds breeding in an area. Through efforts of citizen scientists and backyard birders like you the project documented 237 species nesting in Wisconsin and 133 species in Dodge County. Matt will present some of the exciting breeding confirmations during the Atlas and can answer if your favorite bird is increasing or decreasing their nesting range. He will also present the innovative ways the atlas data can be used to compare bird distribution and abundance to the first atlas 15 years ago. These comparisons will allow bird conservationists and land managers to see changes in bird populations and make better informed decisions on land habitat management to sustain bird populations into the future.
Matt Herzmann, along with his wife Liz Herzmann, were volunteer coordinators for Dodge County over the 5 year Atlas period.
