Sept Park Monitoring, 9/14 update

Holly, Dave and I had a great look at Holler and Johnstone parks yesterday. Johnstone was full of resting monarchs and birds filling up on grapes. Holly heard and spotted the marsh wren amidst the cattails. It was too fast for pictures. Picture credits to Dave.

Holler park was a first visit for the three of us. It is a lovely park with a small pond and a large stand of old oaks. The highlight there was a juvenile red-tail hawk. Holly pieced together that the hawk had probably tried to get a chipmunk, failed and sat and thought about what to do next.

Parks that still need September visits below. Lyons and Holt would make a good pair as would Kern and Lincoln. Please comment or send out a group email if you are planning on heading out so others can join. Happy Birding!
