Sunday June 25: Mequon Nature Preserve at 8:00am

Meet in the main parking lot at 8200 W County Line Road Mequon.

There is a fair amount of construction in the area but we hope that Sunday morning will be less painful.

Colleen and the Wisconsin Metro Audubon Society have a great event tomorrow:

We are having a special pop up event Friday morning. It’s sort of an ‘open house’ type thing where you can come and go as you wish! Bring your own coffee (that’s the BYOC part), donuts will be provided (while they last)! You may want to bring a chair if you plan to sit a while.

When: Friday June 23rd – 8am  – 9:30 am (come and go as you wish)

Where: Haas Neighborhood Park, 4215 E Elm Rd (there is a Subway at the corner and it’s near the WE Energies plant on the lakefront)

What: This park borders the WE Energies meadows. Just this week we saw a dickcissel, bobolinks, savannah sparrow and clay colored sparrow. If we get lucky, we may spot a meadowlark or maybe even a Henslow’s!

There is a small shelter with a picnic table or 2. We will have a scope, bring your binoculars and coffee (or non alcoholic beverage of your choice). Hillside Coffee House on Ryan opens at 7:30 am so if you want someone else to make your coffee, stop there. NOTE: There is NO bathroom facility at the park so plan ahead!

You can walk the fenceline, and there is a short trail off the grassland. There is also another trail that parallels Chicago that might provide some birds. And it’s just a short drive to the fishing pier or Bender Park, or Root River 15 along the Oak Leaf Trail. We don’t have any specific plan, the idea is to just hang out and watch for birds.

Feel free to call if you need any information!
